StreetAdvisor adds Local Lists to user profiles

StreetAdvisor has today released a fantastic new feature in its user profiles. Now community members can create, edit and share Local Lists of anything they want. You can make a list of your favorite restaurants or stores, places you visit regularly, or the special places you go to on vacation.

StreetAdvisor Local Lists have two special features. First, when you make a list it is automatically added as a forum topic for the city or state you locate it in, which makes it easy for you to share your list with friends and neighbors.

Second, you can map the places in your list and build you own map of favorite places! To create your own list, start in your user profile. Click the 'Local Lists' tab then click the 'Create a New List' button.

To see a great Local List in action, check out this Local List of Things to do in Fremont, CA.

StreetAdvisor puts your neighborhood on the map

StreetAdvisor knows that streets are important to people, and we feature thousands of pages of street reviews. We also have pages for cities and states. But cities are sometimes too big for many people to care about so much. People care about their neighborhoods far more than they do their cities. People are often familiar with many of the streets in their neighborhood, and they identify with their neighborhood. Streets may have flavor, but neighborhoods have personality.

Features

  • Over 12,000 neighborhoods everywhere from big cities to smaller towns
  • Green map pins display neighborhoods
  • Green shaded outlines showing the area covered by each neighborhood
  • Ability to write neighborhood reviews (as well as street and city reviews)
  • Neighborhood rankings - how does your neighborhood rank in your city?
  • View the best streets in your neighborhood

The best and worst reviews

Each week more and more people are becoming part of the StreetAdvisor community. One of the first questions people ask is 'what are some of the best streets to live in?' And what about the 'not so best?'

So we are giving you what you want by showing some of the best…. and worst (as rated by you) streets. If you don’t agree, write your own review and engage in conversation with the StreetAdvisor community.

This month's best review

Barker Cypress Road, Houston, Texas (Street Rank in Houston #6, Overall Score 90.00)

kendai1102 says:

Barker Cypres is an up and coming street in the booming Cypress Texas. With the addition of a Community College and multiple high class neighborhood Barker Cypress and quickly became the ideal place to raise a family and start a life. There has also been a new state of the art athletic facility built there. Even with the addition of the College traffic is always smooth and fast.

This month's (not so) best review

East Avenue T-12, Littlerock, California (Street Rank in Littlerock #1, Overall Score 50.02)

Mamabear says:

I lived here for 4 years about 10 years ago, and this formerly homey little street has deteriorated considerably since then. Every once in a while my siblings and I like to drive past places where we formerly lived, and I've seen this street have too many ups and downs to be comfortable with it. There is a nice park and school within walking distance, if you want to really walk through the run down neighborhood, and 87th street, at the corner of T-12 where I lived, is very, very busy and constantly overrun with big-rigs.

On the improve

This review is not so much about a place that is getting better; rather it is about a place that suits some people more than others.

Roanoke, Virginia (City Rank in Virginia #6, Overall Score 77.91)

rascleattop says:

Roanoke is for older people. I grew up here bored out of my mind. It's not exactly a small town either, but the people here carry that closeminded small-town attitude. It's a gorgeous place to live (nice landscape, great climate, and pretty nature) but not some place I would want to raise my children. There are no sidewalks in the county for people wh o like to go jogging/walking. There's only like one mall that doesn't even have all the big retail outlets.
